Art therapy
"Art therapy allows individuals to express themselves in ways that words cannot. It provides a unique form of communication that can be incredibly powerful and healing."
What is art therapy?
Art therapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses art materials and the creative process as a way to explore feelings, reconcile emotional conflicts, foster self-awareness, manage behavior and addictions, develop social skills, and achieve insight.
Who can benefit from art therapy?
Art therapy can be helpful for people of all ages and abilities, including children, adolescents, and adults. It can be especially beneficial for people who may have difficulty expressing their thoughts and feelings through verbal communication, such as individuals with trauma, or mental health conditions.
What happens during an art therapy session?
During an art therapy session, a trained therapist will guide the individual in creating art based on their own interests and goals. The art therapist will provide support and encouragement as the individual works, but will not judge or interpret the art. Instead, the focus is on the process of creating art and the feelings and thoughts that emerge during that process.
